Overview

The Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences Library is a centre of studies, research and informational technologies that offers a wide variety of services for its users. The library has amassed nearly 600,000 books, serial publications, electronic, audio and visual documents. Every year the library acquires 4-5 thousand new documents, subscribes to over 30 electronic databases that give access to over 25 thousand electronic journals and 200 thousand electronic books.

 

Many of the textbooks, methodical, science and fiction books can be borrowed and taken home from the library, and if certain documents are not present, an order can be placed to borrow it from other libraries.

 

The library also offers 407 workplaces, 70 of which are computerised. The library also offers other services: wireless internet, stations for the listening of audio and watching of video materials, scanning, binding and copying facilities, rooms for group studies.

 
Main tasks of the Library:

• Take part in education and to increase the bibliographical reading abilities of highly qualified future teachers for Lithuanian schools;
• Provide the readers with the necessary printed materials, documents and information; analyse the need of information and improve its quality.


Rules for using the library.

 

Important information for the readers:
All Library materials should be treated with care.
Materials can be ordered over the internet: http://leu.library.lt/
Patrons must bring their membership card every time they visit the Library.
Patrons will be charged fines as follows for overdue materials:
        • loans for a period of 2 weeks: 0,29 € per day for each item for each workday of overdue,
        • loans for a period of 1 month or 6 months (semester): 0,03 € per day for each item for each workday of overdue.
A borrower who loses or damages books, documents or other materials is liable to pay a replacement value as determined by Library Authority.
The fine for damaged barcode is 0,58 €.
Patrons must keep their mobile phones silent and answer their calls outside the reading areas.
Wireless internet is available in the Library.
Self-service copy machines are available in the corridor of the Main Building and at the Branch Library of the Second Campus.
The Library is closed on cleanup days. Closings are announced and posted on the Library door, Web page and “Facebook” page.

Offers scholarly, reference, fiction, teaching materials, textbooks.
The regular loan period is:
• 1 month – for scholarly documents, fiction and textbooks, provided that the Library has enough copies,
• 2 weeks – for the last copy of a document.
All the textbooks (provided that the Library has enough copies):
• autumn semester – till February 15,
• spring semester – till July 15.

Borrowed items may be renewed for a second period (but not the last copy of a document). Renewals are available online or in person.
Patrons can borrow not more than one copy of the same title, otherwise the number of documents to borrow is not limited.

Materials that are not available in Vilnius libraries can be ordered from other libraries in Lithuania or from foreign libraries. Ordered materials are only for use in the Reading Halls at the Library.

Offers a collection of books, textbooks, teaching materials of all the subjects tought at the University. Patrons can order materials from the Holdings. 4 computers at the location provide access to the internet and electronic resources. 1 magnifier for patrons with special needs.

We offer:

Offers an extensive collection of scholarly journals, general interest periodicals, newspapers, multimedia, electronic resources. Patrons can order periodicals of earlier dates from the Holdings. 12 computers at the location provide access to the internet and electronic resources. There are scanning, colour or black & white print services. One can buy sheaths.
