International Conference - 3rd Conference “Identity at the Intersection of Cultures”

Topics and Scope

We kindly invite you to the 3rd international scientific conference “Identity at the Intersection of Cultures” that will be held on 16-17 October 2014, organized by the Polish Language, Culture Study and Didactics Centre of the Faculty of Philology, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences in cooperation with the Institute of Polish Philology at the Pedagogical University of Cracow (Poland) as well as Department of Slavonic Studies of the Faculty of Arts, the University of Ostrawa (the Czech Republic), which is intended to discuss the interaction of languages and cultures at ethnic borders and the development of identity in multicultural environment.

Researchers in philology and didactics from various countries are invited to participate in the conference to discuss topical issues on identity at the intersection of cultures from linguistic, literary and didactic aspects. When analysing the linguistic and literary materials, conference participants are supposed to take contemporary context into account: the expansion of globalization and mass culture on the one hand, and aspirations to cherish regional culture and traditions, on the other. A discussion will be organized about the impact of these conflicting phenomena on the formation of contemporary individual’s self-awareness and identity. Analysis and conception of these issues will contribute to the development of new guidelines of linguistics and literature didactics.

The conference will cover the following topics:

  1. Linguistic relations at cultural borders;
  2. Intercultural links in fiction;
  3. Dialogue of different cultures in the education process;
  4. The significance of socio-cultural activities to the formation of local identity.
