LEURASMUS Cultural Day

September 23rd our university’s students and guests gathered in Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences to get familiarized with different countries, their cultural pecularities, including gastronomical heritage, specifity of languages, traditional dances and games, most famous and stunning locations. ERASMUS students presented their countries from all over Europe and countries beyond.

The event was organized on ESN LEU initiative for university’s students so they could get to know other countries from their foreign collegues. The event started with a short presentation of ERASMUS programme for Lithuanians. This presentation answered some frequently asked questions, including who can participate in the programme, what the requirements for candidates are, which countries participants can go to and ect.

After the presentation ESN LEU team spoke about Lithuanian traditions and customs, introduced traditional dishes like the 'Branch Cake', the 'Lazy Cake' and the White Salad. Futhermore, the team offered participants to try these dishes out. Foreign students were amazed by unique shape of the 'Branch Cake' and deliciousness of 'Lazy cake'. Later on everyone played a game called „Jurgelis meistrelis“ (meaning „Jurgelis the master“) and had a good time learning the movements and singing the words of traditional dance „Oira oira“.

Presentations of ERASMUS programme participants followed. Every foreign student or a group of students tried their best to intrigue their audience with interesting details about their countries, plied everyone with their national dishes, taught variety of traditional or popular dances. Most exciting thing was that all participants and guests were interested in everything they saw or heard and showed great enthusiasm in learning words from different languages. Both foreign and local students interacted with each other and found many things in common despite of being from different countries.

At the end of the event everyone tasted various dishes and compared them and their preparation methods with Lithuanian cuisine. In this way everybody was acquinted with various cultures even without travelling!
