History

The word „mentor“ is not new in Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences (LEU). Erasmus exchange programme in our university has already been existing for 10 years. The coordinators of International Relations Office used to invite and promote students participate in Erasmus life as volunteers and take care of foreign students. Thus, the group of mentors was established where new students constantly replace the old ones. Basically, students become mentors who have participated in Erasmus themselves. Having undergone some experiences in their Erasmus they know what foreigners might need and how to help them. Usually mentors try to prevent problems that foreigners might face. Moreover, studies abroad should bring only positive aspects and that is why our team is ready to help foreign students at anytime.

In 2013, there was a strong and independent group of mentors which decided to join Erasmus Student network (ESN Lithuania). Already on 29th September the group of mentors of LEU was approved as a section-candidate. Later during the 18th National Platform, which was held in Kaunas, 16.04.2014, the section-candidate was approved officially as a 13th section of ESN Lithuania.

The very first ESN LEU board consisted of president – Mamerta Ralytė, vice president – Miglė Navickaitė, public relations coordinator – Modesta Brukštaitė, secretory – Brigita meškonyė, LR – Eglė Genutytė. Later the structure of the board had slight changes, there were new positions included such as Social Erasmus coordinator, human resources coordinator and leisure coordinator.

On 10th April, 2014 the first official election of ESN LEU board was conducted. New board was elected: president – Mamerta Ralytė, vice president – Brigita Meškonytė, public relations coordinator – Evelina Doftartaitė, Social Erasmus coordinator – Viktorija Mažonaitė, leisure coordinator – Marija Žilinskaitė. During the same conference internal rules of ESN LEU were confirmed.

ESN LEU members belong to different faculties. Thus, it embodies the whole university. The aim of the section is to ensure quality in academic life along with leisure time of Erasmus students in our country. To achieve that, every semester ESN LEU organizes an orientation week and many other events so that new Erasmus students would not only get to know their mentors, students but our culture and customs as well. Active mentors usually contribute to events organized by ESN Lithuania and cooperate with other sections. ESN LEU welcomes every person who wants to be part of this organization and who agrees that all stand for one and one stands for all.

All mentors of ESN LEU are young and active people who always follow this slogan „We can do it!“.
